The sea bream (*Tai) being the
symbol of Nagoya, what an honor to make it a sweet : the Taiyaki. In a
fish shape, it made of a kind of waffle mix stuffed with red beans.
Though the Gin no An chain, which means « The silver red bean paste »,
is present all over
Japan, Nagoya seems to be the most appropriate place to savor it.

All fresh and stuffed
with a marvelous vanilla cream in front of the guest, Beard papa's
"choux à la crème" will make you drool with anticipation. Specific
tastes are available depending on the time of year : chocolate cream,
tiramisu,
green tea... etc. The principle is very easy, you choose a chou
(normal, ring, cone...), its stuffing and you savor it. Yes, delightful
pastries are not only available in France, far from it ! There are 150
shops in Japan so you can see for yourself.
Advice : For restricted budget, some "choux à la crème", available in convenient stores (*konbini) are also very satisfying : they are stuffed with whipped cream or pastry cream, or both if you're indecisive.

Ichigo-gari
Who has never dreamed of a strawberry orgy ? At Ichigo-gari, or « the strawberry hunt », you can pick up an unlimited amount of strawberries. After an explanation on how to properly pick them up, you'll be assigned a hunting-ground (row 22 to 25 for example) and there you go. Armed only with your little pot of sweet condensed milk, you're released in a giant greenhouse invaded by those precious little red fruit. Only one watchword : Eat as much as possible ! Positive point : Possibility of receiving sweet condensed milk to be eaten with. Negative point : Strawberry overdose might occur. Advice : This activity is not possible all year round. The best season to enjoy it is spring, but opening dates are limited and might be different from a greenhouse to the other. Be sure to be aware about it before going. |
